Postdoc position in quantum algorithms for near-term devices and in machine learning methods applied in the quantum domain (quantum-applied machine learning)

​The aQa group at Leiden University welcomes applications for Postdoc positions, which will be supported by the Quantum Delta initiative.

  • Topic: We are looking for individuals with an excellent academic record interested in

    • the development of new quantum algorithmic methods for near-term quantum computers, with applications in machine learning, optimization, chemistry and highly correlated physical systems .

    • the development of machine learning, AI and advanced optimization methods applied in quantum information processing and in many-body physics.

  • We especially invite applications from students in the late stages of their Ph.D., as well as young researchers  with a strong background in theoretical quantum computing and many-body physics, but also computer science, quantum chemistry, AI and mathematics, who are excited to learn about quantum computing.

  • Duration: the post-doc positions can range between 1 and 3+1 years, depending on the candidate. Furthermore, successful candidates from outside the Netherlands may be eligible for the 30% ruling on tax deduction for the whole duration of the position.

  • Who we are: The Applied Quantum Algorithms (aQa) group comprises a Leiden University collaboration between the Leiden Institute of Physics (LION) , Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS), Leiden Institute of Chemistry (LIC) and the Mathematics Institute (MI). We focus on the development of quantum algorithms and their applications for problems in natural sciences (physics, chemistry), practical computing (machine learning, AI, optimization), with a particular focus on the scope of near-term quantum devices. Our vision is to bring real-world quantum computing to a practical level, integrating theory, experiments and applications. aQa is well embedded with the Dutch quantum computing ecosphere, with theory collaborations with QuSoft in Amsterdam, and theory and experimental collaborations with QuTech in Delft, which opens the possibilities of benchmarking our ideas with actual quantum computing hardware. We have strong ties with industry and collaborate with a number Dutch and international companies.
